Norwood Forum has been running a dedicated transport campaign to improve travel options, accessibility and road safety in our neighbourhood. We know that transport is one of the biggest challenges facing our area – and one of the most common concerns raised by people in our community.
We’ve been asking for your views on public transport, road safety and active travel in Norwood. Thanks to your input, we’ve identified key issues around walking, cycling, buses and trains. We’ve been taking this feedback to transport leaders and Lambeth Council, pushing for positive changes that make it easier, safer and greener to get around Norwood.
Our transport campaign is all about making practical improvements that reflect what matters most to local people – and we’re working to turn your priorities into action.
Transport in Norwood
Our neighbourhood has some very specific characteristics that make good transport links essential - and harder to achieve:
- No Tube access: unlike much of London, Norwood isn’t served by the Underground or Overground. That means our trains and buses need to deliver a high level of reliable service.
- Speeding and road safety: long, straight roads encourage fast driving, creating dangerous conditions for pedestrians and cyclists.
- Hills and high car ownership: the area’s steep terrain, combined with car ownership levels of up to 80% on some streets, makes encouraging walking and cycling more challenging.
- A diverse population: Norwood has both an ageing population (13% more residents over 65 in Knight’s Hill than the Lambeth average) and the highest number of young people in the borough - each group with distinct transport needs.
What you've told us
From your feedback and comments, we’ve identified some key concerns within the community:
- Better enforcement of speeding and parking restrictions
- The urgent need for step-free access at Tulse Hill Station
- Improvements to walking and cycling infrastructure
- More reliable and accessible bus and train services
These priorities are shaping the focus of Norwood Forum’s ongoing transport campaign. We are working to address each of these areas by engaging with local authorities, transport providers and other stakeholders involved in transport, including cycling and e-bike organisations.
