Register now to vote in General Election

The next general election will be held on Thursday 12 December 2019. You must act now to ensure you are able to vote. The voting register is renewed each year; if you did not return your Household Enquiry Form (HEF) (first sent out in July) you risk being deleted from the register. The registration deadline is midnight Tuesday 26 November 2019.

Westow Street: McDonalds

The McDonalds’ application for change of use of the old Living Well Satisfies site in Westow Street was rejected by Croydon Council. The grounds for refusal were increased levels of activity around the site at anti-social hours and the implications for congestion and highway safety of vehicles stopping at the planned McDonald’s. Police concerns about the increased likelihood of crime and anti-social behaviour were cited specifically. There is certainly the risk of McDonalds appealing the decision, but this is definitely round one to the local community!

Breaking news - Father Xmas to visit Upper Norwood!

Visit Santa in his cosy reading room this Christmas! Deep in the recesses of the Upper Norwood Library Hub building a lost room has been discovered. This hidden hallow is home to ancient and rare books only a library can preserve. This is Father Christmas’s secret reading room. A sanctuary for him to rest, think and invent new toys. He is inviting you to come and visit him and share your Christmas tales.

Robes Project: volunteering opportunities

For the past few years St Luke’s Church West Norwood has participated in the Robes Project, a homelessness project that arranges for around 75 rough sleepers in Lambeth and Southwark to have a hot meal, a warm bed and a fortifying breakfast, in a church building, through the winter months from November to mid-January.

Lambeth Community Events Training Programme

Applications to this training programme are now open, subject to eligibility. The Community Events Training Programme aim is to deliver a training programme that builds on and further develops the skills and knowledge of our local community event organisers. The training will also share best practise with regard to community safety, sustainability and community engagement. Training is delivered by Lambeth Events staff (EventLambeth) with speakers from other Lambeth departments and external agencies.
