NEW BUS LANES

The council is proposing sections of new bus lanes in West Norwood town centre to help speed up bus times.

The proposed bus lanes are in parts of Norwood Road, Norwood High Street & Knights Hill and limited to 7am to 7pm.  Enforcement would be the responsibility of Lambeth council. The recessed parking/loading bays are due to stay but some other parking spaces will be turned into double yellow lines.

The Forum met with Lambeth's Healthy Streets team. Currently there is little enforcement of parking in the town centre.  Many town centre shops have to deliver everything through their front door so we want to ensure all businesses will still have loading and delivery options. We asked about improved parking for disabled people.

Last January /February over 150 people took part in a consultation on traffic congestion in West Norwood and sent in many suggestions. We want to see the council turn these ideas into an action plan.  Partial bus lanes alone will not be enough to speed up bus journeys through West Norwood.

We have suggested that any bus lane proposals are phased in gradually and additional measures to tackle traffic and improve safety for pedestrians & cyclists are included in the plan.
