Free weekly band sessions for 13–18 year olds in West Norwood.
Youthsayers runs free weekly music sessions for young people aged 13 to 18 at the Portico Gallery in West Norwood. The band plays afrobeat, reggae and other culturally relevant music, with no cost to take part.
The project has been running in Lambeth for more than 10 years, giving young people the chance to learn, rehearse and perform together. Former members can also continue playing with Red Earth Collective, an alumni band made up of Youthsayers members now pursuing music, education and other careers.
This October, Youthsayers is also launching a bursary scheme offering subsidised music lessons and an instrument to young people who show musical promise but cannot afford them.
Red Earth Collective will be performing at The Bull at 10pm on Friday 17 October as part of Streatham Strut.
