Rathbone Society Cuts Energy Use by Over 50% with Support from Station to Station BID

Local charity The Rathbone Society has reduced its energy use by an impressive 53.5%, thanks to support from Station to Station BID and funding from the Mayor of London’s Business Climate Challenge.

The challenge helps businesses across London cut energy costs and carbon emissions. Station to Station BID recruited a group of local businesses to take part, offering free energy audits and technical support.

Despite operating from a Grade II listed building and not owning their premises, Rathbone made significant changes - replacing bulbs with LEDs, adjusting heating controls, installing draft excluders, and promoting staff-led behaviour change. They also appointed “Energy Champions” and embedded sustainability into staff training.

“We have a lot of limitations, but it’s been a really positive experience,” said Jo Piskorz, Administrative Manager. “The knowledge and support we received were invaluable.”

Rathbone now hopes to secure further funding and work with Lambeth Council to implement more energy-saving improvements.

Station to Station BID continues to support local businesses on their journey to net zero through sustainability, carbon reduction, and green travel initiatives.
