A New Met for London: consultation

The Metropolitan Police is consulting the public on their New Met for London (NMfL 2) plan. They say this is a vital opportunity for Londoners to have a say on their policing priorities; they want to reach as many voices as possible in order to ensure the plan reflects the experiences and concerns of our diverse community.

The published draft of the second phase of our New Met for London (NMfL 2), is the Met's proposed plan for the next three years and the next step in achieving their mission of More Trust, Less Crime and High Standards.

This draft aims to build on the plan set out in 2023, and reflects both the Met's own analysis and feedback from partners and Londoners.

What is in NMfL 2?

The plan maintains a focus on community crime-fighting, culture change and fixing foundations, while committing to reduce crime, raise standards and improve services for victims and the public. Two new proposed priorities are introduced:

  1. Putting Crime-fighting First: cutting bureaucracy and putting more resources into tackling crime.
  2. Working in Partnership: collaborating with communities and partners to solve problems and address local priorities.

What has the Met achieved so far? They say:

  • Trust is rising, with confidence in the Met now higher than in other major force areas.
  • More than 1,000 additional criminals arrested each month.
  • Neighbourhood crime is down 16%, shoplifting case outcomes have improved by 92%, and homicides are at a five-year low.
  • Standards are improving, with hundreds of officers dismissed or removed for falling short of expectations.
