Friends of Norwood Park Awarded National Lottery Funding for September Community Event

Friends of Norwood Park are celebrating after receiving £1,800 from The National Lottery Community Fund to host a community garden and park activity event this September as part of the Mayor’s Community Weekend.

The group will use the funding to bring local residents and park users together over the weekend of 13–14 September 2025. Activities will include creating more seating and growing areas in the park, alongside community gardening, volunteering, and a celebratory get-together for all ages.

The Mayor’s Community Weekend is a partnership between The National Lottery Community Fund - the UK’s largest community funder - and the Mayor of London. It supports events that celebrate the diversity and vibrancy of London’s communities, encouraging people to connect and take pride in their local area.

Lorien Mowat from Friends of Norwood Park said:

“We’re delighted that The National Lottery Community Fund and the Mayor of London have recognised our work in bringing the community together. Thanks to National Lottery players, we’ll be able to make our green space even more welcoming, with more places to sit, relax, and grow plants - helping people enjoy nature and feel part of something local and positive.”

The Mayor of London, Sadiq Khan, added:

“I’m thrilled that more than 200 community groups will be bringing Londoners of all backgrounds together in September. The first event was a huge success and this year we’re looking forward to a wide range of special events and activities taking place across the capital.”

The Friends of Norwood Park is a voluntary group committed to improving park facilities, preserving wildlife, and fostering a sense of belonging through community action.
