In response to Norwood Forum’s detailed representation on public transport and active travel, Cllr Rezina Chowdhury has confirmed that Transport for London has approved funding to begin design work on Croxted Road, between the South Circular (A205) and Norwood Road.
Cllr Rezina Chowdhury wrote to Norwood Forum on Tuesday 24 June to say:
"I’m pleased to share that, through TfL’s Local Implementation Plan (LIP), Lambeth has secured funding to begin design work for improvements on Croxted Road in this financial year (2025–26). We will be working closely with Southwark Council to develop proposals that respond to residents’ concerns, including measures to reduce speeding and road danger. I can also confirm that design work is underway and includes new crossings to make it easier and safer to walk along the route, as well as bus priority measures designed to improve bus journey times. We understand the community’s sense of urgency and are committed to making progress."
Norwood Forum identified a large number of improvements across the area based on community feedback. These have included large scale changes such as the Tulse Hill Gyratory, improvements to the South Circular here and improvements to train and bus frequency and reliability. Also included are smaller changes, directly in Lambeth Council's Control, such as more street planting and seating and improved crossing points in other locations. A running theme in responses received is the current lack of funding availability.
Cllr Rezina Chowdhury continues:
"On Leigham Court Road and Norwood High Street, I recognise these remain key concerns for the community. As you will appreciate, Lambeth is currently operating under incredibly challenging financial conditions, and while we remain committed to reducing road danger, we are very limited in what we are able to deliver at this time."
Norwood Forum is currently holding public engagement meetings with young people, parents of young children, commuters and older people in order to offer wider representative community feedback and encourage more support for improvements identified. We hope this will reach the ears of decision makers and help show the level of support for investment in our area when funding allows. Further information will be published in due course.
Cllr Rezina Chowdhury concludes:
"Your planned public engagement meetings sound very constructive, and I am interested to hear the outcome."
