Norwood Park – less flooding, more nature

Members of the Norwood Forum met last week with Lambeth Council officers to discuss a range of green issues, including our green spaces, energy efficiency and reducing waste.

The most exciting news is that the £1.4 million sustainable drainage scheme in Norwood Park is nearing completion. The site was chosen after a Borough-wide analysis, and the works are scheduled to end in October. The nature of this investment means that not only will our area be better protected against sewer overflow, but also bio-diversity in the park will receive a massive boost.

Every tree was mapped before the works began so that roots could be protected. “We see the beauty in them,” said Flood Risk and Climate Adaption Manager, Matthew Panou. Over 12,500 additional plants will be planted in the park during the late summer, early autumn. Watch this space for more information about community planting sessions.

Green Norwood wants to be a source of accurate information on all things relating to environmental issues. We want to help our neighbours make good green choices that benefit them and their families and be able to access energy efficiency schemes run by the Council and GLA.
