Could Your Elderly Neighbours Lose Heating and Hot Water on 30 June?

Thousands of households across the UK could be affected when the Radio Teleswitch Service (RTS) is permanently shut down on 30 June 2025. The RTS controls certain older electricity meters particularly those used to manage off-peak tariffs like Economy 7 and Economy 10 - and its closure may leave some customers without functioning heating or hot water.

Energy suppliers have been contacting customers to install smart meters as a replacement, but unfortunately, many elderly residents have ignored these messages, mistaking them for scams. As a result, some still rely on RTS meters that will stop working at the end of this month. This could leave them without essential services and likely paying more for their electricity.

You can help. Neighbourhood Watch is organising a volunteer briefing session to prepare local residents to check in on vulnerable neighbours and help ensure they’re not left without heating or hot water.

Where: Brixton Recreation Centre, 27 Brixton Station Road, London SW9 8QQ
When: Thursday 19 June 2025
Time: 10am – 14pm
