Rathbone Youth Centre needs Volunteer Learning Mentors

Rathbone's Inspiring Learning Project works with disadvantaged young people in the West Norwood area who are struggling at school and need extra support with their learning.

In Lambeth there continues to be a wide gap in attainment between young people who receive free school meals and those who pay.  The pandemic has put additional pressure on the lives and education of these disadvantaged young people and further exacerbated this attainment gap and inequality. Digital poverty has been a big barrier to young people’s access to and full participation in education.

The Inspiring Learning Project has been running for the three years and in that time has supported 90 young people.

Rathbone are looking for volunteers who can commit an hour a week for at least six months to help a student – between Y7 and Y11– with their homework and/or revision in one subject, for example English (many students come from households where English is not the first language), Maths, History or Science. Study support sessions are online, starting at 4pm onwards.

If you could spare ONE HOUR A WEEK to help a young person keep up with their learning, Rathbone Youth Centre would like to hear from you. No previous experience necessary.
