Local MP Visits SEN Sports Club to Learn How Inclusive Provision Is Changing Lives

Local MP for Beckenham, Liam Conlon MP, recently visited a Special Educational Needs (SEN) sports club in Crystal Palace to hear first-hand how inclusive sporting provision is making a real difference to the lives of children and young people.

During the visit, Mr Conlon met with participants, families and staff to learn more about how the club supports young people with additional needs through sport, physical activity and social interaction. He observed sessions in action and spoke with coaches about the importance of creating safe, welcoming spaces where everyone can take part, regardless of ability.

Families shared how the club has helped improve confidence, wellbeing and social skills, while also offering parents valuable support and a sense of community. Staff highlighted the challenges faced by SEN provision locally, including funding pressures, and the vital role that inclusive sports clubs play in supporting young people outside of school settings.

Speaking after the visit, Liam Conlon MP praised the dedication of those involved and acknowledged the positive impact the club is having across Crystal Palace and the surrounding area. He said it was important to listen directly to families and organisations delivering inclusive services on the ground.

The visit helped shine a light on the importance of accessible sports provision in Crystal Palace and the wider Norwood community, and the role it plays in improving quality of life for children and young people with special educational needs.
