Volunteering opportunities this week

Soul Shack LDN CIC – drivers: URGENT
Soul Shack LDN are a social enterprise tackling the roots of youth violence in Lambeth. They are running a Christmas Food and Present drive as well as a weekly food bank from the new year. They most urgently need delivery/collection drivers who will be able to pick up food donations (usually Fridays or Saturdays) as well as deliver food on Christmas Day from 2pm-4pm. Deliveries will be to organisations and people who have signed up for the service in the Kennington and Brixton areas. Can you help Soul Shack deliver Christmas to young people and their families in need?

Healthwatch Lambeth – awareness raising champions
Lambeth Advance Care Planning Consortium is supporting people in Lambeth to plan ahead and record their future care wishes. They are looking for volunteers to help them run virtual workshops and have one-to-one conversations to raise awareness about how to plan ahead and record residents’ future treatment and care wishes. You’ll receive training and support every step of the way. They’re currently trying new ways to carry out activities during the Covid-19 pandemic and would welcome your ideas. Please take a look at the role description. The role is flexible but they ask champions to commit to participating in the project for at least six months and to help with at least two activities. The next training will be on Tuesday 5 January 2021 (5:30-7:30pm) on zoom.  Please take a look at the role description and sign up here to find out more.

High Trees CDT – community engagement
One in six people in Tulse Hill do not have access to either an internet connection or a device to get online. This means exclusion from education and from work and in a pandemic, it means crippling isolation. High Trees Community Development Trust is looking for help to build the case for free Wi-Fi for those who cannot afford it.  They need people who can be available 10am-2pm on any one or more of six days in February – 15-17, 22-24 – to join the team, door-knocking in the area to talk about what matters to people when it comes to digital exclusion. High Trees will provide training and supervision to do this safely. Can you help the campaign to stop people being excluded from life online? Find out more here.

Vassall & Coldharbour Covid Response Group – local deliverers
VACCRG have designed and printed an emergency support leaflet that highlights local food, health and social services available over the festive period. They’re looking for help with delivering the leaflets to street addresses in Vassall and Coldharbour wards. Could you add delivering to your daily exercise walks in the weeks before Christmas? VACCRG are working to help ensure that local vulnerable people – who may not be online – know how to get help if they need it this Christmas – please let us know if you can help too.

Age UK – Phone Friends and helping the elderly
We’re right into winter now and with COVID still a topic of daily conversation, Age UK are still actively recruiting volunteers. Whether you would like to volunteer to have a 'phone friend' and be matched with an elderly member of the community and have a weekly conversation that will help and reduce isolation and loneliness, or you have some extra time and would like to help elderly members of the community who may be shielding or isolating - whatever way you may able to help, they would love to hear from you. Find out how to volunteer for Age UK Lambeth.
