Volunteering opportunities this week

Many and varied voluntary roles this week:

OnHand – volunteering app
Volunteering app onHand is always looking for more volunteers to join their gang and they have lots of opportunities to help vulnerable and isolated people in Lambeth each week, including companionship phone calls, dog walking and shop drops. You can get involved by downloading their app on the Google Play Store or the App Store and completing an ID and DBS check so you're ready to pick up missions. It's super quick and simple and their app has been described as 'the uber for help' so you can find volunteering opportunities that are closest to you – contact us if you’d like to know more.

Stockwell GPs – flu vaccination marshals – urgent!
This Stockwell Group Practice is looking for three volunteers who can assist them at the surgery in Stockwell this Saturday 12 December from 10am-1pm. On the day they will need help with queue management, directing patients, prepping them on what to expect and keeping them comfortable. PPE and refreshments will be provided. Clinicians and other practice staff will be on site at all times, leading as points of contact. Please let us know urgently if you can help this weekend.

Millennium Community Services - befrienders
Do you have the enthusiasm to make a huge difference to a community project that is struggling to help others? The aim is recruit as many volunteers as possible to the Millennium Befriending Community in time to support as many isolated people over Christmas that they can. People with social media skills are also very welcome, to help publicise this new service. All volunteers must be, or be willing to be, DBS checked. Millennium would love to hear from you.

High Trees CDT – community engagement
One in six people in Tulse Hill do not have access to either an internet connection or a device to get online. This means exclusion from education and from work and in a pandemic, it means crippling isolation. High Trees Community Development Trust is looking for help to build the case for free Wi-Fi for those who cannot afford it.  They need people who can be available 10am-2pm on any one or more of six days in February: 15-17 and 22-24 – to join the team, door-knocking in the area to talk about what matters to people when it comes to digital exclusion. High Trees will provide training and supervision to do this safely. Can you help the campaign to stop people being excluded from life online? Find out more here.

Vassall & Coldharbour Covid Response Group – local deliverers
VACCRG have designed and printed an emergency support leaflet that highlights local food, health and social services available over the festive period. They’re looking for help with delivering the leaflets to street addresses in Vassall and Coldharbour wards. Could you add delivering to your daily exercise walks in the weeks before Christmas? VACCRG are working to help ensure that local vulnerable people – who may not be online – know how to get help if they need it this Christmas – please let us know if you can help too.

Age UK – Phone Friends and helping the elderly
We’re right into winter now and with COVID still a topic of daily conversation, Age UK are still actively recruiting volunteers. Whether you would like to volunteer to have a 'phone friend' and be matched with an elderly member of the community for a weekly conversation that will help and reduce isolation and loneliness, or if you have some extra time and would like to help elderly members of the community who may be shielding or isolating - however you may able to help, Age UK would love to hear from you. Find out how to volunteer for Age UK Lambeth.
