Volunteering opportunities

Lambeth Council publishes local volunteering opportunities on a weekly basis. Here's this week's opportunities in our local area:

Home Start Lambeth

Are you a parent or do you have experience with young children? Do you have two hours to spare each week? Volunteer as a Home-Start Lambeth volunteer! As a Home-Start volunteer, you would be matched with a local family offering them personalised, flexible, non-judgemental support to help them cope with the challenges they face. This help varies to match the needs of the family. You will be supporting them to cope and help them develop the skills and confidence to take control of their situation. This could look like:

  • Supporting a young parent to build their confidence and adapt to life with a new baby.
  • Provide a listening ear to a mother experiencing post-natal depression.
  • Help a family to access local services and build new connections across Lambeth.

They also have volunteer roles providing support to family support groups delivered via Zoom. These groups provide a valuable avenue for isolated families to connect – something that has been increasingly difficult in 2020. You would help facilitate the groups and help them to plan the content of the groups to best meet the families’ needs. All their support is currently delivered over the phone, via Zoom or through socially distanced face to face visits. All training will be delivered online.

They will be running our first Remote Support Training via Zoom over two days: Tuesday 22 September 9:30am-12:30pm and Tuesday 29 September 9:30am-12:30pm.

If this appeals to you, contact Home Start by email for an application form and role description: info@homestartlambeth.co.uk, or ring them with any questions about the role on 020 7924 9292.

OnHand Shopping

The shopping service is operating in the whole borough, providing support to residents who are not able to leave their homes due to Coronavirus or other health reasons, but do not require an emergency food package. The time commitment is to assist with shopping one day a week.

The task: downloading a phone application (through which the service is managed), taking shopping orders, conducting shops on behalf of residents, taking a photograph of shopping receipts on delivery. Please note, this role will involve volunteers paying for residents’ shops and then being reimbursed through a simple expense process.
